Journey to Mondulkiri

The province of Mondulkiri is on the eastern border with Vietnam, and is mostly forest. From Phnom Penh it is quite a long journey to Mondulkiri, and most is on dirt roads filled with pot-holes. However, the scenery after you leave Kompong Cham is stunning, with green rice-fields, rubber-tree plantations, and forested mountains. The road winds through elephant grass, and passes through villages that time and the economy have left behind. This is the Cambodia that few tourists see. With sweeping vistas of grassy hills and stands of pine trees, here the landscape and the climate are very much different from the rest of Cambodia.
