Java - Bali

Private Tour - 14 days / 13 nights

DAY 1 JAKARTA
Arrival at Jakarta International Airport, meeting and welcome by our representative and transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel in Jakarta city centre. Overnight.

DAY 2 JAKARTA - Bogor - BANDUNG
After breakfast, pick up at the hotel lobby and drive approximately 50 kilometres south of Jakarta to the town of Bogor, which is famous for its impressive 80-hectare botanical gardens. Founded in 1817, the gardens feature streams, lotus ponds, a magnificent collection of palms, and over 3,000 varieties of orchids, as well being a refuge for more than 50 different species of birds.
From Bogor, proceed towards the city of Bandung, driving by Puncak Pass Mountain Resort * (1,600 metres above sea level) and passing through beautiful tea plantation scenery. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant en route. Arrive in Bandung late afternoon and check into your hotel. Overnight in Bandung. (B/L)
* Except during weekends and public holidays, when the journey from Bogor to Bandung will go via Cipularang Toll Road instead of Puncak, due to busy traffic conditions.

DAY 3 BANDUNG

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a full-day tour of Bandung, including a scenic drive through the Lembang hills to the crater of Mount Tangkuban Perahu, and a visit to the hot springs of ‘Sari Ater’, located 1,600 metres above sea level.
After lunch, visit Padasuka village, where you will hear a performance of Angklung – a traditional musical instrument made of bamboo tubes that originated in Indonesia.
Return to your hotel in Bandung and overnight. (B/L)

DAY 4 BANDUNG - YOGYAKARTA

After an early breakfast at the hotel, proceed to the train station of Bandung, where at 0730 hrs you will board the train (in executive class with A/C) to Yogyakarta, passing through the Preanger district, which is well known for its beautiful panoramas and scenic countryside.
In the early afternoon you will reach the train station in Yogyakarta, from where you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.
In the evening, drive to the cultural centre of Purawisata for dinner with a Ramayana dance performance. Overnight in Yogyakarta. (B/D)

Day 5: YOGYAKARTA

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the ‘Kraton’, the former palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. This grand and elegant complex was meticulously planned to reflect the Javanese cosmos, and is a splendid example of traditional Javanese architecture. Designed and built in stages, the Kraton was completed in 1790. In addition, see the Water Castle, also known as ‘Taman Sari’ (meaning ‘beautiful garden’), located just west of the Kraton. It was built in 1758 as a rest house and pleasure park for the royal family, and one can see the ruins, pools, arches and underground passages, some parts of which, for instance the bathing pools, have been restored.
Afterwards, proceed to see some traditional Javanese batik processing and silver smith in Kota Gede. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the magnificent 9th century Hindu temple of Prambanan, the largest of its kind in Indonesia. Soaring up to 47 metres, the complex has three spectacular large candi, surrounded by 224 minor sanctuaries, and is an excellent example of Hindu relief sculpture and architecture. Whilst there, you can also see the nearby Ratu Boko temple complex, that was originally the palace during the Hindu and Buddhist period and was built on 600 AD. The remnants of the royal pool and audience hall still exist, as well as some caves used by local people for meditation. Spend your afternoon tea/coffee time at Ratu Boko while enjoying the sunset.
Return to your hotel in Yogyakarta for overnight. (B/L)

DAY 6 BOROBUDUR

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a morning visit to Borobudur temple, whose massive stone stupa is one the greatest of all ancient architectural monuments. Built between about AD 750 and 850, Borobudur predates Angkor Wat in Cambodia by three centuries. Its ensembles of stone relief panels are the virtual history of Mahayana Buddhist doctrine as well as providing scholars with detailed information about life in 8th and 9th century Java. Having fallen into oblivion shortly after its completion and buried under volcanic ash and tropical growth, it was only rediscovered in 1815, and has recently been fully restored by an international effort under the aegis of UNESCO. In the surrounding villages you can still watch artisans whose craft is similar to that of their ancestors. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant.
Then, for a further insight into Indonesian culture, visit the local village of Candirejo, where you can watch and learn about traditional village living in Indonesia, as well as enjoy some of the local customs and handicrafts. A visit to a traditional village is a memorable experience and offers the rare opportunity to embrace a purely village atmosphere.
Return to the hotel in Yogyakarta and overnight. (B/L)

DAY 7 YOGYAKARTA - SOLO

After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Solo (also known as Surakarta), which is located about 60 km north east of Yogyakarta. Solo is a former royal city and has preserved much of its Javanese character; it is less touristy than Yogyakarta and is well known for its charming and soft-spoken people. Whilst there you will see the unique Javanese–Hindu temple of Sukuh, situated on the western slope of Mount Lawu; and visit the local market, ‘Pasar Gede’. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Overnight in Solo. (B/L)

DAY 8  SOLO – Jombang – BROMO
Breakfast at the hotel, followed by an early morning departure by train (executive class with A/C) to Jombang in East Java. Upon arrival at Jombang, at around midday, the journey then continues by road to the village of Tosari, near Mount Bromo. Lunch will be served at local restaurant en route. Arrival in Tosari later afternoon, and overnight. (B/L)

DAY 9 BROMO - SURABAYA
At around 0400 hrs, proceed in a 4x4 vehicle for a climb to the viewpoint of Mount Bromo, where you will see the sunrise with the spectacular ‘lunar’ landscape background forming the Bromo and Semeru volcanoes. After driving back down to the foot of the mountain, you will then have the chance, if you wish, to climb to the mouth of the crater, either on foot or by mountain pony. Afterwards, return to the hotel for breakfast.

DAY 10 SURABAYA - SANUR
After breakfast, drive approximately 2 hours north to the city of Surabaya, located on the northern shore of eastern Java and the capital of the East Java province. There you will experience a city tour including: Jembatan Merah (the famous bridge that connects the two halves of the city), Kali Mas Harbour, Pasar Pabean market, and the tobacco factory/museum known as the House of Sampoerna. Overnight in Surabaya. (B/L)
